God Don’t Want Your Bull

By Johnny Campbell

Text: Psalm 50:1-16

1 The mighty God, even the LORD, hath spoken, and called the earth from the rising of the sun unto the going down thereof.
2 Out of Zion, the perfection of beauty, God hath shined.
3 Our God shall come, and shall not keep silence: a fire shall devour before him, and it shall be very tempestuous round about him.
4 He shall call to the heavens from above, and to the earth, that he may judge his people.
5 Gather my saints together unto me; those that have made a covenant with me by sacrifice.
6 And the heavens shall declare his righteousness: for God is judge himself. Selah.
7 Hear, O my people, and I will speak; O Israel, and I will testify against thee: I am God, even thy God.
8 I will not reprove thee for thy sacrifices or thy burnt offerings, to have been continually before me.
9 I will take no bullock out of thy house, nor he goats out of thy folds.
10 For every beast of the forest is mine, and the cattle upon a thousand hills.
11 I know all the fowls of the mountains: and the wild beasts of the field are mine.
12 If I were hungry, I would not tell thee: for the world is mine, and the fulness thereof.
13 Will I eat the flesh of bulls, or drink the blood of goats?
14 Offer unto God thanksgiving; and pay thy vows unto the most High:
15 And call upon me in the day of trouble: I will deliver thee, and thou shalt glorify me.
16 But unto the wicked God saith, What hast thou to do to declare my statutes, or that thou shouldest take my covenant in thy mouth?

Start by reading verse nine and notice the word “bullock.” The Hebrew word “egal” (bullock) occurs 104 times and means, “a baby bull” (cf. Micah 6:6). A baby bull is one year old. God is saying in verse ten, “I own the cattle on a thousand hills and I don’t need your bull.” Then in verse 12 God says, “Look, the whole world is mine.” David is saying in Psalm 50 that GOD won’t accept any bull in the context of worship or sacrifice.
.
David said God was wanting a different sacrifice. Look at verse 14: “I want the sacrifice of thanksgiving, not your bull.” Notice how sweet and tender is our Father to say, “be thankful.” Also, verse 15 take note that God says, “If you call on me, I will answer you. But don’t give me your bull.”

GOD wants Israel and us the born again to be:

A. THANKFUL (verse 14)….

…For the sacrifice of His Son for our sin and thankful for the Scriptures, and the Holy Ghost.

B. TRUTHFUL (verse 14)….

…To pay their vows. How many vows have we broken with our Heavenly Father?

C. TRUSTFUL (verse 15)

God is saying to you, “Trust me enough to call on Me. I will deliver you.”

D. TRAVELING IN THE OLD PATHS (verse 15)

“…And thou shalt glorify me.” That’s the old way but God still wants you to glorify Him. Just have a spell — He’s worthy of all praise.

The sacrifice is the praise of our lips (Hebrews 13:15) not your bull. All these Old Testament sacrifice point to CHRIST. The Jews have been without a priest or a temple since 70 A.D. Soon the Rapture will come and the Jews will have their temple built and go back to their sacrifices and oblations. But remember Hebrews 10:4: “For it is not possible that the blood of bulls and of goats should take away sin.”

The Jews will learn that you don’t get to God with your bull but with His Lamb that was sacrificed before the world began.
